I started working on a creature design based on sloth skeleton. It’s on of the exercises in the book Designing Creatures and Characters. Which I highly recommend if you haven’t checked it out.

Being creative is easy. Grab a pencil and a piece of paper and have at it. Doodle away. Draw or write whatever comes to mind. Do this for 15 or 20 minutes and you are certifiably creative. Email me your results and I’ll send you a certificate and membership card. Continue reading

Willy Pogany was an amazing illustrator who was active in the early 20th century. I first saw his art a few years ago while paging through a copy of Rendering in Pen and Ink. For the most part, illustrations from that era tend to bore me, but his work stood out. I was blown away by the quality of his draftsmanship and imagination. I was intrigued so I googled him and read everything I could find. Continue reading
